For a band who have released nothing original for four years, British trip-hop turned electro outfit UNKLE have had some catching up to do. New album War Stories boasts some collaborations as diverse as they are random. "Burn My Shadow" is no exception.
A track featuring vocals from Ian Astbury, frontman of one of the most successful British post-punk bands of the last two decades, The Cult, and a former Marilyn Manson bassist was always going to raise a few eyebrows to say the least. However, UNKLE have pulled it off brilliantly.
"Burn My Shadow" effortlessly blends haunting words from Astbury with a slow burning crescendo of piano, drums and subtle guitar work from current Nine Inch Nails bassist Jeordie White, resulting in a record not too far away from something Trent Reznor would be proud to call his own.
