JEORDIE WHITE | BASE TENDENCIES
PRESS
I Got a Brand New Egg-Laying Machine is the title of the debut release from musicians, Jeordie White (aka Twiggy who played with APC more recently), Zach Hill (Hella’s drummer), and Chris Goss. With the over-saturated scene, I neglected that album. I bet I missed out on some amazing tunes.
As I sit down to review their latest release, first for Mike Patton’s Ipecac label, my ears and mind are filled with the kind of tunes that reawaken my inner faith in music. After all this is thee Chris Goss, famed Kyuss producer and member of Masters of Reality. That said, this album delivers superb songwriting that you have come to hear on Kyuss guitarist Josh Homme’s Queens of the Stone Age. Licker’s Last Leg keeps the desert sound alive and continues to prove the notion that anyone related to the Kyuss family tree can do no wrong. What is it? Something in the bongwater? It’s like taking 70’s era jangly rock songwriting and transplanting that into 90’s /2000 era alternative. It’s psychedelic, poppy, graceful, and oh so powerful. And thanks to the song “My Machine”— “I appreciate the reach-around.” Trust me; this is the sleeper hit of the year.
